The Corpse Series (Short Film)
DIrected by: James Button and Kristaps Kazaks
Starring: James Button, Jason Mahone, Natalie Martins, Abbie Hirst
James and Dan are flatmates who share a very dark secret: James is a bit simple and tends to get homicidal when things get tense, and Dan is stuck helping him cover his tracks. When James brings a prostitute home under the delusion she wants to be his girlfriend, one thing leads to another and soon body after body is piling up in their house! Can Dan keep a hold of his sanity, his freedom, his girlfriend and even his best friend?
The Corpse Series is only 30 minutes long but in that time packs in more gore and laughs that just about anything outside of Ash Vs The Evil Dead tv series.
Director and star James Button, who plays naturally enough James, get so much done - establishing his characters, setting up some great gags (the reveal of who James is talking to when recalling what happened the "first time" is great) and delivering such an awesome character. Jason Mahone is also very good as the put-upon Dan, effectively the straight man to James' more wacky psychotic persona.
Its really entertaining to watch how things keep escalating - just when you think it can't get any worse for the pair, it can, culminating with the prostitute's pimp and associates tracking her mobile phone to the house.
Verdict: To say much more would be a disservice to the film. It's currently being shown around film festivals and will eventually be available to watch online. Good horror comedy is very hard to find so be on the lookout for this little gem.
